Web picture of the Day | Albert Kahn

posted by Michael on 27 July 2010

In the early 20th Century the French Banker Albert Kahn spent his bonuses on an inspiring project, an attempt to create a colour photographic archive of all human life.

The thirties' depression ruined Kahn and ended the project, but not before the photographers he commissioned had shot a wonderful range of images including some rare colour photographs from the First World War. This week our theme is Kahn's great archive. We start with this one from Moreuil, France, 30 July 1916.
