Tom enacts his fantasy of being able to fly by capturing moments in which he apparently defies gravity and in so doing manages to blur the boundaries between fact and fiction. Is he somehow just jumping or is he really flying? Tom chooses not to tell.
Following in the tradition of surrealist and absurdist humour, Tom becomes an invented character when he wears his tailored suit. The unexpected juxtapositions he creates, such as when a passing couple are surprised by a flying man in a suit, are central to his art. He maintains some control, through his deliberate choice of background or landscape but encourages unpredictable consequences and by putting himself into the picture he is not able to see what is actually photographed until afterwards. The result is a true happenstance.
