Bathed in a blue light the landscape takes on an almost lunar character. Blades of grass growing near the mouth of the waterfall are covered in layers of ice as the spray collects on them and freezes. Caught in this icy embrace the grasses become rigid and erect and like giant glass pin heads they take on the appearance of a strange and undiscovered plant species.

On a visit to Iceland in October 2006, Caroline de Vries visited the famous Gullfoss waterfall and was entranced by how the naturally weak sunlight dreamily illuminates the ancient landscape.
