In the second volume of his celebrated series "Dreams of Flying", Jan explores childhood fantasies. The desire to fly, become superman or a pirate sailing on the high seas are all reconstructed with the help of neighbourhood children and ordinary household objects. In this world of make believe, rubbish bins become the skyscrapers of Manhattan, vacuum cleaners are transformed into ghost busting weapons and scuba diving flippers turn children into butterflies.
The simplicity of a child lying on the floor surrounded by props becomes a fantastical tableaux that returns us the magic of childhood.
