As she grew up Marilia changed places and instead became the photographer, recording intimate moments of her family life. And so Marilia has continued to use photography as a playful expression of how people live out their lives, recording their stories and exploring their narratives, real and imaginary.
Marilia studied photography in Paris at the Ecole Nationale Superieure Louis Lumiere and the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers where she graduated in Multimedia in 2001. Combining both film and photography in her work, she often collaborates with other artists, most recently producing a documentary film on the life and work of the French born photographer, Ariane Lopez-Huici called "The Body Close Up" which was screened at the Maison Francaise in New York in June 2008.
Awarded second prize for her photographic series "Ellipses" at the Bourse du Talent she had previously been a finalist in their 2003 awards with her portrait series Le Bain and in 2001 with the work "Interieur-Exterieur". In 2003 she won First Prize for the competition Ville de Paris-Taxi-Solidarite and in 2000 she was awarded the SACD's prize for "Alice ecilA".
"Ellipses" has been exhibited at the Picto Bastille, Paris, 2009 and the BNF, Paris, 2008. Le Bain was shown at the Galerie MK2 Bibliotheque, Paris, 2004 and ArtA3, Paris in 2005. La Calligraphies des Formis was shown at Exit gallery, London UK, 2008.
Marilia currently lives in New York, USA.
